A recent New Republic press release. The emblem of the New Republic fades from the screen, revealing a podium before the same emblem. The emblem of New Republic Intelligence appears on the podium itself. A man, dressed in formal business attire, steps to the podium.

"Good evening. I will cut to the point. My name is Jaren Sylas, and in recent days I have been been promoted to the position of Director of New Republic Intelligence. This change, and many others, come after recent events which have proven our previous administration techniques to be inadequet. With the recent shootings on Corellia, several times over, at the mandate of the Inner Council, NRI is restructuring. No longer will it act as a police force. To direct it bluntly: NRI will gather foreign intelligence in the interest of national security. We will not participate in so-called 'black ops,' and instead, will focus on the gathering of intelligence for the benefit of our war effort, and to prevent terrorism. Any and all policing efforts will now be handled, solely, by local police organisations upon planets, or by the New Republic Marines, as it has in the past, in military installations."

"NRI has, and always will be, a civilian organization. We have changed our hiring policies in light of this. Positions within the agency have been shifted, and employees retasked to better fit the new vision of Intelligence. We have, in light of this, seen the need to terminate a number of positions; the affected individuals have been referred to other departments in the New Republic government, for possible future employment." A pause, and he shuffles some papers before him. "Finally, a new Associate Director position has been created, as a liason directly to the military, for advising of military intelligence efforts directly to the chiefs of the Armed Forces. This position will be named within several weeks. In conclusion, we hope that we can realize the benefits of a free society; unburdoned by the illegal surveillance of innocent citizens. Thank you for your time." The image returns to the emblem of the New Republic.
