Kiare is reading the sign posted over the pile of
boxes. Her arms are crossed over her chest, just under her bosom and she's
balanced over one leg, the other is slightly behind her, the toe of her boot on
the deck just behind the heel of her other boot.
Varis steps off of an arriving turbolift, dressed
in his green flight suit. Taking a short look around the room, his gaze stops, and
falls on the human near the boxes. His eyes open a little bit wider, no doubt,
but he goes about his business, pretending not to look.
Upon hearing the steps on the deck Kiare turns
slightly and her gaze roams the Duros man before she dips her head in greeting.
Varis gives a small wave in her direction, and
changes his direction over to the pile of boxes that she's near. Stopping, he
tosses a couple credits in, saying "Not much longer, then the Tourmentor's goin
down." He speaks with the cockiness of a new young pilot.
Kiare smiles again, "Kiare Quinn, Mr. Varis."
She's seen the nametag on his flightsuit.
A stupid look on his face, the Duros says, "Huh?"
he stares for a second, then finally gets it. He points to his nametag, laughing
a little. "Yeah, I'm Arknon Varis, nice to meet you." He extends a slightly
shaking hand to her.
Kiare arches a brow, "Do I fluster you, Mr.
Varis?" The grin that follows is soft, almost teasing as she shakes his hand.
Varis smiles slightly,"W-Well, just a little...
not used to seeing very many pretty women on this old thing" he bangs the toe of
his boot against the wall, indicating the ship as a whole.
Kiare grins, her hand squeezing yours firm but
gentle. "That is very sweet of you to say, Mr. Varis." She looks at her
surroundings, "I have to admit that I haven't seen many women at all here."
Varis nods, his arm dropping back to his side.
"Mainly just marine grunts that I've seen... But this is just my second day
here, so that might be why." He smiles. "How long have you been on the
Crusader?"
Kiare shrugs, "I was here a couple weeks, then I
had to be gone for a few days, and then I came back. That was.. three days ago."
"Oh, I haven't exactly done my bit of socializing
yet, they had me doing simulator runs all day today." He rubs the side of his
head. "So are you a diplomat, then?"
Kiare shakes her head, "I work for the government,
but I'm not a diplomat. I've been here to deal with the prisoner."
Varis looks suprised, and says, "Oh? I think I
heard something about that... Can't really recall though." He glances around the
hall, as if looking for someone in particular.
Kiare follows your gaze, "Were you looking for..
someplace?"
Varis shakes his head, "No, those sims have
gotten me tired... thinking of getting a drink sometime soon. Would you care to
join me?" He looks hopeful,"But I can understand if you're too busy with your
job..."
Kiare grins, "It's been a long time since someone
invited me for a drink. I think I will make the time."
Varis looks quite happy with that response, and
looks carefully around the large hall, trying to spot a bar, or anything that
might have drinks... "I, uh, really, really don't know my way around here... " He
looks worried, "Do you know of a place?"
Kiare looks up and down the corridor and considers
what she remembers about the map of the ship. She points to the left, "That way.
There's a place to get drinks and food."
Varis nods, and starts walking in the direction she
pointed. "So what do you do in your spare time? I'm apparently off the sims
tomorrow, but since I'm still in training I have to stay on the ship." He sighs,
"I'm gonna have to check some of those kiosks back there for a map of the ship
tomorrow,I guess."
Kiare shrugs, "Sometimes I drop to Calamari for
diner, dancing, swimming. But usually I'm in the security sector. I have a cabin
there.
Varis nods. Thinking he's spotted the place she
was talking about, he turns slightly, heading for a small diner. "That sounds
like fun... maybe I'll beg my officer for a bit of leaway and hop to Calamari
myself for the day." Varis walks up next to the counter, saying, "What do you
want to have?"
Kiare settles onto a stool and grin. She orders a
blue drink and grins at you, "You want something to eat too?" She slides a cred
chit across the bar.
Varis nods and smiles. He takes out some credits
and orders himself a plate of thin potato sticks, more than likely deep-fried,
with some red dipping sauce. He sits down next to Kiare, starting to munch on a
potato stick.
Kiare grins at the Duros man and orders a meal of
her own, "I could have gotten that. I'm sure I make a little more than a pilot
trainee."
Varis shrugs and smiles. "Well, I don't exactly
spend my money on much...right now my biggest consumer of my credits is the cred
pot out there for the Tourmentor." He grins,"I'm also saving up to buy myself a
Swoop someday. You ever been to a race?"
Kiare laughs softly, "I race. Grade two.. I
usually rank third."
Varis laughs, "Oh, wow. It seems like everyone on
this ship races Swoops!" He grins, taking another couple bits of food and eating
them after dipping them in the red sauce. "Maybe I'll even race against you one
day, who knows?"
Kiare shrugs, "I'll be putting together a team
hopefully before next year. I was hoping to start with a G1 racer."
Varis nods, "Cool, I haven't really been very
involved with racing at all lately... are there a lot of teams?" He looks at
Kiare, resting his arm on the counter, apparently very interested to hear
whatever she has to say about Swoops.
Kiare nibbles her lip as she considers, "Team
Corellia Racing, FlightLine Spaceways, those are the two biggest, Team Extreme,
Team Imperial, ComCor, Starlight, Plaxton Grand, Sigma, Jade Falcon.. and the
Hutts are sponsering a team that I don't know the name of."
Varis eats a couple more fries, saying, "Wow, do
you have a team name ready? Some of them sound straight forward, like Team
Corellia Racing, but others aren't..."
Kiare nods, "Some of them are independantly
supported teams, others are supported by businesses or the like. Myself.. I race
for Team Callandor, it's a Republic Government sponsered team."
Varis says, "Well,as soon as I get to know my way
around here a little better and buy a swoop, maybe I'll try to join... Would I
have to try out, or how do you choose the members?"
Kiare winks, "I'm buying a couple of swoops.
Probably just stock, but as for joining.. Just trying out and doing well enough."
Varis smiles happily, "Oh, ok. How soon are you
going to be recruiting members for it?" He eats a couple more fries, whiping his
fingers on a napkin.
Kiare shrugs, "Maybe in a week or so." She
finishes the last bite of the half of sandwich, "I have to buy the swoops first.
It will be nice to have more than just one racer on the team."
Varis nods as he dips some fries in the sauce,
"Well,if I can end up joining at least I'll be able to do something other than
wander around the ship bored." He smiles, and eats the fries. "So, how often are
races held? sorry for all the questions, but I'm really interested, and I hardly
know anything about it yet."
Kiare grins, "There are usually 10 GSL sanctioned
races a year and in addition to that there are usually charity events that offer
prizes and the like."
As he finishes the last couple fries, Varis hears
the double-beep of the chronometer strapped to his wrist, signalling the start
of a new hour. "Well, I really should be getting some rest soon... starting to
get a headache after all the Sim work. Did you know they're actually built to
shake when you get hit?" He laughs a little, "Cause it was news to me... Anyway,
it was nice talking to you, and thanks for the info about Swoop racing." He
hands the now empty plate back to the server and stands up.
